Pretty much the same as Joerg says except we have been using a C-8....A bigger model with the same catadioptic or mirror telescope background.....The C stands for Celestron a Southern Calif. firm.....My unit would probably be too big for any long uphill hikes though.....We have taken many airplane pics that range out to 100 miles, but of course the most important ingredient is the air (atmospherics) at the time of shooting......We used an Olympic OM-2 and 1 before going to a Cannon for the more updated digital type camera......Practice and conditions !!!.....You can get electric focusing tools to help with focusing things and not touch the scope body.....Guess trial and error is the main ticket !!!...........
