That would be me who was hiking near the border near Groom mine and found the tracks. It was either 1999 or 2000. I was with a guy who worked for Fresno Search and Rescue and another guy. It had rained the night before and just about the middle of our hike the S&R guy stopped and starts looking at the ground. He points to some tracks and says they are bear tracks. We took measurements and pictures and we moved on our way. Something that hit me after I was home was I had my Akita on that hike and he saw plenty of cattle on that hike and paid no attention to them, right before we saw the tracks he started pulling me like he wanted to chase something and wouldn't stop even after I was yelling at him and yanking hard on his choke collar...Akita are bred to hunt Yezo bears in Japan....instinct?
