This is true that the A-12 had three "first flights". We refer to the one on the 26th as being the "official" first flight as it was witnessed by all the big wigs from CIA, Lockheed, etc. I believe the first flight was supposed to be a taxi only, but Lou pushed the edge of the envelope a bit. ha Pilot do that. On the X-15 flights, the pilot would sometimes have to have the flight controller "say again" and that would be enough delay to give them astronaut altitude.
