brain reset......

i remembered wrong - got my 747's mixed up in my mind. the ABL flying airframe WAS a NEW 747 aircraft from boeing. it was then extensively modified to accept the laser weapon system and nobody would want it now because of the mods. the ground "lab" airframe (ended up in a building with it's nose sticking out) was the used air india jet which got the cheap paint job i described. the old air indea jet also broke loose on a hill during it's tow from the mojave boneyard halfway to edwards but because of quick action by a bunch of military folks didn't careen back into town or the desert and destroy itself. i wonder how many hours the new ABL aircraft had when it finally came to rest at the boneyard at DM afb? it is probably one of the lowest hour large aircraft ever retired...
sorry for the mistake.....
