There has been no reason for NASA astronauts to go to Groom Lake, but plenty of guys who worked at Groom Lake became astronauts. Several others were semifinalists in the astronaut selection process, an indicator of the high caliber of personnel chosen to work at Area 51. Funny that the Skylab crew got such grief for that one picture of Groom Lake taken in 1974. Crew members on board the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station have taken numerous similar pictures since then without any problem.
