Not that odd. The Britts are pretty loose about low level flying. There is a lot of latitude in selecting your route.

I flew F-111F's out of RAF Lakenheath for 3 years. I once had a lady not far north of that location try to get the USAF to pay for her medical expenses when a low flying plane scared a calf she was castrating and smashed her into the barn wall, breaking ribs. I was on radar passing there at the time, but I was at 4,000'. I had heard 4 Jaguars on the radio trying to stay under the weather at 50'. I managed to get them to admit it. The radar didn't see them.

In the northern neck of Scotland, we could plan about any route we wanted and fly it as low as 200' in the clouds and/or at night using auto terrain following. What a thrill!! UK was a GREAT place to fly.
