APCO 25 is Digital Trunking that has taken off in the last few years, there are a few scanners that can track the PHASE 1 or FDMA systems without encryption. They are the Uniden 396xt, the 996xt, 996t, the radioshack Pro-106, Pro-197, and the GRE line of digital scanners PSR-500, PSR-600, PSR-800 and the soon to be released PSR-900. The GRE PSR-800 is the only current consumer available scanner that can somewhat track a PHASE 2 APCO or TDMA system. Things are changing all the time but in a nutshell for a few hundred bucks you can enlighten yourself to a whole new world of scanners and radios. Getting started is easy wait for the "Father's Day" sale at radioshack and pick up a digital scanner on the cheap, then go to www.radioreference.com and read a few programming hints for your area. Lot's of fun with new systems popping up all the time.
