The X-15 is a sheet metal mock-up. It was removed from its display pole near the Visitor Center after being damaged in a wind storm. After being repaired, it will be placed under (or perhaps attached to) the wing pylon on the NB-52B near the North Gate. The airplanes parked on the Shuttle MDD ramp are in storage. Some of the F-18s have been scavenged for spare parts. One was acquired specifically for that purpose. Another F-18 is simply an "Iron Bird" (non-flyable airframe for ground testing and systems integration. The airplane at the far left is the second F-16XL. It has an asymmetrical planform because it was modified for the Supersonic Laminar Flow Control experiment. The wing glove has been removed. The other F-16XL and the NF-15B are also in storage. Neither has flown in years. The three UAVs near the 747s are RQ-4A Global Hawks. There is also a Shuttle Training Aircraft that has been retired. The airplanes parked on the old South Base ramp belong to the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum.
