I have not watched the footage, but you see quite spectacular shooting stars up there all the time, often breaking up in mid-air and leaving a glowing trail for a second or two. The absence of light pollution makes them really stand out in the night sky.

The runway lights at Groom are only turned on when something is about to land or take off. When you are on Tikaboo and you see the lights come on, you know something is about to happen.

Flares are part of military exercises such as Red Flag and usually have nothing to do with operations at Groom. They create quite a spectacular light show, and are probably the single most common cause for "UFO" sightings in the area.
