The objects of the ground truth testing probable would be realistic/actual items (aircraft, SAMs, radars, tanks, etc.) and maybe decoys to see if they could be differentiated. The fact we had those items would need to be protected and the aircraft and SAMs were probably already being tested in the Nellis ranges. History has revealed the Red Hats were flying captured Migs in this time frame and they were based at Groom.
