Joerg, I am a member of an astronomy forum, specifically focusing on astrophotography. Image stacking it THE method used by most "amateur" and professional astrophotographers. Many of the experts on that forum will gladly process images gratis if you provide the data files. If you would like, I would be happy to request some assistance and guidance with some of the experts on that forum. I have no doubt that a request for assistance on an Area 51 panorama would be enthusiastically received.
However if image stacking is something that you would like to learn on your own, there are a number of stacking programs available on the web for free, in fact the free software tends to provide some of the best astro images that I have seen. Usually this software is used in conjunction with Photoshop to squeeze out the most detail.
Thoughts? Any interest?
