"A" Band Radar? Hmmmm. OTH is HF (3-30 mhz) while ILS frequencies include marker beacon and localizer freqs (VHF) and glideslope (UHF). Those signals are used at low output to limit range and avoid bleedover to distant airports. They are directional in that they are only receiveable within 35 degrees of the runway centerline in either direction. They are published to be receiveable at a distance of only 18 miles. In my experience most ILS receivers would do well to just receive the signal at 30 miles, let alone a back scatter that would paint an aircraft at that distance (Tikaboo being 25 miles and well outside the 35 degree arc) with any accuracy. I like the idea, but I think the transmitters would have to really crank it up to be useful. Now if you find yourself in an airplane flying over Quartz Peak or Graytop.....
