Yes, the United States of America spends a lot for defense - we have a lot to defend. Our spending includes research that has given us the whole reason for A51. The Russians and Chinese just pay (a lot less) to steal what we develop (look at the new Chicom F-22 clone) or get the info as a dividend for their campaign contributions.

Personally I think defending our freedoms and way of life is worth it. Too many others would use religion, ideology or just plain envy to strip us of our had-fought liberties and wealth.

If you want to look at just results, we used our defense spending to destroy the Communism (yes, we did - there is NO thriving Communist Country left in the world; China doesn't count as they are more capitalistic than Marxist.) Just what have been the results of the enhanced entitlement programs that have threatened our defense and have killed our manned space program? Just second and third generation welfare families who have learned that being a single parent with no job is a career goal - not an obstacle to over come! Someone should look at the dollars flushed down that drain and compare the benefits of entitlements for people who just want more, more, more vs. supporting professionals standing watch in every corner of this globe keeping us safe!
