As a test base, they usually have longer runways anyway..........If you'll recall Edwards has not only long runways, but the drylake (marked off as a very long runway) is used as well. Basicly if the test pilot decides to abort (a takeoff) they have plenty of runoff to bring it to a stop.......Don't want to bent Uncle Sam's new hardware. Prototypes are extremely expensive.... ;0)
