I'm not sure why they just don't go back to attack helicopters for the VTOL portion of their mission. They're certainly much more cost effective and versatile. Combined with A-10's or something like that they could certainly field a lot more aircraft for a lot less money, have better reliability, etc. Especially for their mission high Tech Aircraft is not the way to go.
