One of the reasons we haven't seen any lenticular (disk-shaped) aircraft flying around Groom Lake, or anywhere else, is that the shape is extremely unstable. Popular as a concept in the 1950s and early 1960s, the idea of "flying saucer" aircraft was soon abandoned as impractical. Aircraft shape is driven by performance characteristics and mission utility. Thus far, the flying disk has proven to be an evolutionary dead end in aircraft design.
