Full-aspect low-observability may not be their aim for this beast - Bill Sweetman had a writeup that makes some good points, that they don't actually need to counter the Raptor - the J-20's speed, range, and frontal stealth could menace E-3s, RC-135s, and tankers, driving them well far back, and by consequence limiting the USAF's ability to operate their limited numbers of Raptors effectively over the expanses of the Pacific. The slow, nonstealthy C3I aircraft and tankers are the Achilles Heel. Take them out, or deprive the US of their effective use, and you don't need to be able to qualitatively match the F-22.
