You posed some very good questions. Firstly, it is all opinion - EXCEPT the FACT that a dirt berm was constructed in front of a new hanger to specifically block its view from Tikaboo. That WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DONE if the authorities were not aware and were concerned with exposure from that direction. They would have not spent the time, money and resources unless that threat, and yes it is a threat, to their security has already have been compromising their efforts. I have been to Tikaboo and I would NOT be surprised that flight ops on certain levels of classified projects are affected by unknown personnel on Tikaboo - they probably treat people on Tikaboo like when Sov/Russian birds fly overhead - everybody goes inside and nobody flies. As a result, visitors on Tikaboo JUST MIGHT have delayed flights, wasted time and cost lots of money from people who sat around an twiddled their thumbs while we smoke and joke on Tikaboo. Yeah, great fun.

We (the DLR Team) generally hike Tikaboo on weekends(cause we work for a living) when flight ops are minimal (it IS a government operation) but there is evidence (garbage mostly) that Tikaboo hosts more than just us friendly DLR posters - probably during the week. After the recent purposefully destructive releases of governmental information, it is obvious that although we would think twice about publishing photos of a future weapons system, there are people out there that would do so specifically to harm this nation and compromise our security. Lurkers with bad intent on the peak of Tikaboo with NOD/NVG is their greatest nightmare hence the berm to block the view and curtail flight ops.

Why? Take a look at Sov/Russian aircraft - a LOT of their design are taken from American engineering - the TU95 is a copy of a very early design of the B52, with their Buran, Tu-144, and next gen fighters designs VERY close to their opposite numbers. The Soviets/Russian have always preferred to steal secrets vs. developing their own research and development projects - hell, they boosted an entire Sidewinder missile and over a fence in Germany to get their ATOLL Air to air missile that is STILL killing our fliers!. As a result they have a VERY economical way of fielding superior weapons systems - THEY JUST STEAL OURS! So if we can - DON'T GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY! Make them spend the bucks like we have to to obtain the next gen weapons - or better yet, they them use gen 3 while we have gen 5. Personally the stories of F-15 pilots picking off MIG23's like drones off Tyndall never gets old. It ain't fair, it's war.

President Reagan forced the dissolution of the USSR by having them hugely overspend to keep up with us, so the economic imperative to maximize our investment in these new systems at the same time not giving the enemy (and they still are the enemy)a free ride is largely based on keeping our best aerospace and development work a secret. So yes, publishing a picture of a new, unseen aircraft could be a very damaging act. Hard to resist, but something that would hurt the country, which I personally am not willing to do.

Hey, its almost Christmas so a diversion to wax philosophical is irresistible. but that is my take on the issue.
