Another Mystery Device

A source, who wishes to remain anonymous, found this device in a remote area about 55 miles NE of Area 51. It was set up next to a dirt road. About 5 miles before he got to it, he passed a truck with gov't plates heading the other way.

The unit includes an onmi-directional antenna mounted on a tripod, a wireless data transceiver (see follow-up post for a close-up), a battery and a solar panel. The transceiver is marked for "Military Use Only". It operates in the mil. air band.

A quick google shows that this is a wireless data modem with a range of about 20 miles. The RS-232 port was not connected. It looks like the occupants of the truck took the laptop with them, and laid the solar panel on the ground.

The omni-directional antenna would indicate that this is the base station. There are either several remote transmitter units within 20 miles range nearby, or it connects to a moving target.

The location is north of the corridor used by Red Flag and Weapons School players to get from Texas Lake into the Ranges, in a very remote area. Any thoughts?
