I think the jets only get painted at depo level maintenance and they don't send a jet to depo just to get a new paint job. It has to wait until the scheduled maintenance is required. So there could still be some T-38s with the old paint still around for that reason even though its just a small part of the tail we are talking about. The navy has the same thing going on at Fallon. When NSAWC brings in a F-18, they fly it with the normal solid vanilla grey or whatever it is paint job. Only when the maintenance is required at the depo level do they get painted in camoflage.
