Wow. The design of this orbiter tells me it's a falling rock and out of control until it reaches sub-sonic speeds. Those elevons are not thermally protected and look to be of semi-monocoque design. This means they are extended for control of pitch, roll and yaw only after slowing to sub-sonic speeds. The BFG deice boots on the wings indicate the importance of lift from the wings even during operations in colder conditions. Since this is a relatively new technology, I understand the ugly sensors in the picture, front and back,
