I think the F35 is part of a much bigger picture, yes we will see unmanned aircraft emerging rapidly and with AI. However a Human will always be required to make those split second decisions in the combat arena and those pilots will command and control the U/CAV's below and around them. Like a mini AWAC taking care of battle command for a mini attack formation, sending and directing the unmanned vehicles toward their targets as well as protecting them.

It is poor management to see such an over run on budget and timetable, the UK Aircraft Carriers will be ready long before the F35 they are designed for. Where is the next Ben Rich? As Neil Armstrong once said to do another Apollo you need to be in the same zone as that project: Threat, Leadership and Economy. We are not in that zone by a long shot.

The project has gone beyond the point of no return so all that can be done is apply a little bit of tough management and discipline and get on with it.
