It is not compulsory to visit a Military Base with Weapons Platforms on display, however if you do, except the fact that you are entering an environment that is far removed from the Civilian World.

If you were the Base Commander would you relax security levels because you have invited Joe Public in? Quite the opposite me thinks, you have no idea who might make their way in, you are the guest so obey the rules of the the house.

At RIAT (RAF Fairford) everyone goes through an airport type security check, i.e. Xray of bags, metal detectors etc. It's a pain but necessary, there are also armed personnel discreetly placed around the base, I would expect nothing less in these times.
