Hi Zipper, sorry misunderstood your question, the Airshow (RIAT Greenham Common)commentator attributed that sound to the wing, it was only evident when the planes were on the far side of the airfield. It was not realy a howl but more like a bunch of badly played wind instruments, the planes being a mile or so away and side on were not giving off much noise from the engine. Maybe he got it wrong or spiced things up to talk about that unique wing. Pretty cool you worked on the F104.
