AN/ALQ-188A (United States), Payloads

Type
X-band (8.6 to 10.2 GHz sub-band) radar jamming system.

Description
The pod-mounted Northrop Grumman AN/ALQ-188A(V) system is described as being a 'low-cost Electronic CounterMeasures (ECM) threat simulator' that is based on the AN/DLQ-3C(V) system. In its 'Generation 2' format, ALQ-188A(V) is in-flight reprogrammable via an RS-232 port. During April 2004, Northrop Grumman (Rolling Meadows, Illinois) awarded KOR Electronics (Cypress, California) a contract with regard to the production of eight Model 1275 Digital Radio-Frequency Memory (DRFM) units for use in upgrading ALQ-188 pods to (V)4 configuration. As of the given date, procurement of 61 such DRFMs (in annual batches) was anticipated and was scheduled for completion during 2008. The 3-bit Model 1275 was developed specifically for the application and the equipment is described as incorporating a techniques generator, RF converters, power supplies and firmware to programme and load 'complex [and] coherent' ECM techniques. Three previous Model 1275 purchase orders added a further eight units to the inventory and were valued at then year US$1.5 million plus. This figure is noted as having included 'some' development work.Baseline ALQ-188A(V)
