Definitely mountain lions. I had a close encounter years ago only a few miles from the GL Rd gate, in a very remote area near the trail to Roadblock Canyon. That encounter, although the cat and I decided to go our separate ways after a few moments, prompted me to start carrying a gun when I go hiking out there. Never heard of bears out there. I saw a few rattlers over the years, but as long as you stay out of their way they are no problem. Lots of coyotes, but I have never heard of them attacking a healthy adult human. As for small critters, very rarely you see scorpions (usually under piles of wood etc.) or a tarantula.
