Following the ATF fly-off competition, the YF-23 airframes were placed in storage at Edwards AFB. On 1 December 1993, both aircraft were moved to NASA Dryden Flight Research Center with the intention of using them for research projects.

These projects never came to fruition, however and YF-23 (87-0800/N231YF/PAV-1) was Transferred to the AFFTC Museum at Edwards on 2 May 1995. Since the Museum did not yet have any place to display the aircraft, it was parked at the edge of a taxiway adjacent to Rogers Dry Lake. On 31 March 2000, I watched as it was loaded aboard a C-5, destined for the USAF Museum at Wright-Ptterson AFB, Ohio.

The other aircraft, YF-23 (87-0801/N232YF/PAV-2) was transferred to the Western Museum of Flight at Hawthorne, California, in August 1995.
