I don't have the exact numbers right now (maybe someone can dig them up?), but "the Box", the restricted airspace around Groom Lake extends less than halfway up Groom Lake Road to the Highway. That is considerably closer than Tikaboo Peak. Planes that fly along the border of that airspace are contacted by Groom and warned that they are close to restricted airspace. But unless they enter that airspace I seriously doubt that they will be escorted, let alone attacked, by fighter jets as that TV show suggests.
I know people involved in that particular production, and from what I have heard the incident never took place as shown.
