i agree that the tour is over priced and that information given by them is probably more on the "entertaining" side of things instead of the factual side. i rented a car for my first trip back in the 90s and found it much more exciting and adventurous. i even got buzzed by a helicopter. everything is easy to find if you follow the maps and gps coordinates on this site. i would also suggest making sure you have enough daylight to explore during the day and then stay in the area for a while after dark. even if you dont see anything super-secret at night the view of the stars and the utter remoteness of the place is worth the extra time.
