I didn't get a chance to finish this post. I have heard from friends that they are working on automated robotic UAV piloting systems that allow the UAV to operate without human's in the loop. They can carry out both short and long duration missions autonomously. The part I was most interested in is the robotic vision where the system can recognize and follow terrain as well as distinguish friend from foe. This is truly the persistent hunter killer concept.
