My guess is the CN-235 would have been fiscal year 1996, as they often use the second number of the fiscal year as the first number of the registration. The CN-235 wasn't flying in 1986.

The pallets certainly are basic airliner type seats that can be fitted on pallets into the lugs in the cargo floors of most transport aircraft such as the CN-235, the C-130, C-160 etc. They're also used in KC-135s, C-141s, C-17s and even C-5s.

Did anyone else notice the wing tanks and dorsal antennae on the PT-6/UV-20? These aircraft were reportedly used by 'Air America' in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand in the Vietnam War, and are probably still used in Central and South America. They have an approach speed of only about 40 knots and can pull up in about 100 yards, and the rate of climb from a full power STOL take-off has to be seen to be believed!!

The CN-235 has some short field performance, but not in the same class as the DHC-4/5, or the UV-20. The CN-235 virtualy has the market cornered in the small/medium STOL transport market at the moment. The LMATTS C-27J hasn't been ordered by anyone yet, and is really the only western competitor in that class. There are few if any in private hands, so I'm not so sure if they are "popular with jumpers". They're built in Spain and Indonesia, and are mainly used by air forces in SE Asia.
