I think the announcement of a launch of this fighter-sized drone lends credence to GreatGuess' argument. I would bet the weird engine noises heard at KPMD and the area near Groom, plus the new hangar, and the increase in activity at Groom - as evidenced by the Janet flights - all point to a new airframe.

I would not be surprised to learn that this new airframe has already flown and is poised to perform operational missions.

I also believe that the range has been upgraded. Last week the F-22 and F-35 avionics test beds were on the ranges, as well as the NASA WB-57. So much new activity in a short period of time cannot be coincidental.
