Don't know about "installed" but observation aircraft was used in WWI to photograph the enemy lines..A second(in most cases) person would point a camera over the side....
Also a fellow used his Lockheed Electra(IIRC)to spy on Germany prior to WW2.....Can't recall his name off the top of my head......
