A few years ago, the donuts-on-a-rope contrails were covered in Aviation Week, in a story on alleged black projects, if I recall correctly.

Anyway, the next week AW&ST published a letter from a subscriber in Poland, who said something to the effect that "these things have got to be meteorological or manmade phenomena; here in Eastern Europe, we see them all the time..."
