The helicopter squadron has gone by several names over the years: Green Ghosts, The Ghost Squadron, and finally, G.H.O.S.T. Some have suggested the apparent acronym stands for Groom Helicopter Support Team but maybe it is more of a "backronym" where you force the words to fit the abbreviation instead of vice versa.

The mission of the Medical Group is to provide limited health services for personnel assigned to DET 3, AFFTC. The Medical Group provides medical care to ensure maximum readiness and test capability. The group is probably broken down into a Medical Operations Squadron and a Physiological Support Squadron. The PSS provides medical and technical support for flight operations. This includes integration and maintenance of life support systems, training, and medical support directed toward optimum crew effectiveness and survival capabilities.
