I think your mind is playing tricks on you. Considering that you saw lights and thought of Area 51, which so many "Alien" folk tales behind it, it was probably just your mind. And the fact that it happened so fast also indicates that, most likely, it was just you imagination. It might have been due to the power of suggestion, if you think of Area 51, you're more likely to see a "U.F.O." And the fact it being 8:30 at night, could also have played a factor as well.
