How much did you pay for the Sat phone if you don't mind me asking? I looked into them about the same time I bought the SPOT. If my ever failing memory serves me correct the cheapest I found one was $1200. Then a dollar a minute for talk time. I used to watch Survivorman and he said he takes a Satellite phone with him, but it only works 50% of the time...
