The shuttle, SR-71 and whatever breaks the sound barrier will set off seismographs. Beale had SR-71s, thus the "quakes". This doesn't exclude other sources of "quakes", hence nobody was asleep.

Did you intend to place a link in your message? If so, neither message you posted contains a link.

I've heard these "quake" stories, but simple logic would indicate that the USAF would only go supersonic where it was allowed too. [Excluding screw ups.] Why attract attention to yourself when you have airspace under your control where sonic booms are daily occurances?
