If you think the EPA and subsequent enhanced security status has anything to do with protecting national security you have missed the point. Any direct acknowledgement of Area 51 will allow lawyers to re-open the hazardous waste court cases in an attempt to legally force information out of the government. Work which is critical to the security of the nation is done everywhere, almost all in places where the government has no issue with acknowledging the existance of.
