TR-3 designation was a creation of bad aviation journalism, and is unfortunately one of those things that will not go away, like the 30,000 ft long runway and Area 51 was closed and moved to Utah.

If you want to find the real origin of TR-3, say "Tier-3" over and over until you hear the similarity.
