Like the others, I've seen oversized tires going down the highway before but I've never seen them tarped-up like this one. I can't imagine why you would cover a tire like this.

Looking at the pics, the "tire" is not sitting flush on the trailer bed. There is a frame or mount of some kind keeping it suspended off the bed a couple of feet. So, this is not just a tire by itself. It could be a complete hub assembly. Many modern off-road dumptrucks use hybrid electric drivetrains with electric motors built into the hubs to power the individual wheels. If so, that might explaing covering it since there could be some exposed components of the hub assembly in transport.

I am having some friends who know mining look at the pic to see if they can tell me what/why about it.
