When I took the tour two Februarys ago, a tour briefer (not the tour guide) in the reading room, mentioned there will be high security for obvious reasons and due to the fact we will be 11 miles away from Area 51. He called it by that name then said or what ever they call it these days. I was going to chime in with AFFTC Det 3 but decided not to.

Security was tight but you could definitely smuggle a camera in or a souvenir out. But that would be crazy as it just isn't worth it in the end. Most images of the areas visited are already on the internet. You are only allowed off the bus at Sedan Crater where I watched the sky but did not see a thing. No helicopters, no JANETs -no nothing! Nothing was mentioned as we went by CP-1 and the new Yucca Airstrip. If my memory serves me right, there were two foreign nationals on the tour.
