This is a complete shot in the dark, but:

I wonder if, similar to the red-hat program, we're testing some foreign technologies out there, still. The idea just sort of ran through my head that, if a ATA/SAM missile was in the process of being jammed really, really well, it might zig-zag fairly quickly and do strange things. Maybe we've got some dummy aggressor weapons out there, and are demonstrating our ability to subvert their internal control? Or maybe testing out the agility of our own?

Of course, you'd think this sort of thing would be more likely at a place like white sands... but I suppose if it wasn't our technology at work, it might need some place more like groom.

I'm trying to think of other things that might zig-zag noticeably. I like the idea of a helicopter or flares coming from the search-and-rescue demonstration.

Robert: how tight were the turns? Did it look like something a human could be driving, or more mechanical?
