Welcome to DLR! You came to the right place for information.

The best way to watch the airspace, especially at night is to camp out in the area. Most of the area is public land, so camping is ok as long as you don't expect any facilities. The attached link has some info on good camp sites.

The best place to watch the Red Flag action, and even Fighter Weapons training outside of Red Flag, is a hill SW of Coyote Summit. You probably saw references to it here in the forum. Another good location is west and north of Cedar Pipeline Ranch. You will see more heavies there, and some Russian helicopters if you are lucky.

The mailbox is a popular place to watch the Groom airspace, but it really is not a good spot. The section of Highway from about 1/2 mile south of GL Rd up to the Gravel Area (see our map) is much better (higher elevation). The Gravel Area is an excellent spot. If you have a 4WD, try the Powerlines Overlook. You still can't see Groom, but you have an excellent view of the airspace. Another good spot is a small camp site near Queen City summit. A short easy dirt road from the gravel pile on the west side of the road leads up to a rancher's fence. Good views of the Groom airspace on one side, and the TTR on the other.

Enjoy your trip.
