I hear they used to have some pretty wild parties there, back in the days when there was less "adult supervision." Booze was cheap and plentiful ($0.35 for a Scotch). Sam’s Place had a bar where the bartender was in the middle of a rounded rectangle. Patrons would sometimes hold “Bar Racing.” A contestant had to run around on top of the bar for the fastest time. The practice stopped after one guy banged his head into a steel beam, and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas. The bar was open for two shifts. One ended around 1:00 a.m., and it re-opened when the other shift ended about 6:00 a.m. Gambling was another pastime. Also, there was the time Larry McClain blocked the entrance door with an armored personnel carrier. Good times.
