Robert,
The Windmill Inn has a great restaurant open to the public six days a week, closed on Sundays. They rent out deluxe cabins at $99.00+ a night. I doubt the military stays there, but rather at the Alamo or Sunset motels which are nearby and more reasonable in price. Not to say that they don't stay there, but unlikely.

Military maneuvers were not originally planned for the Alamo airport which is a gravel landing strip about a mile from the main road. Is is only suitable for small planes, helicopters, and possible C-130s. It is my understanding that its present use is because of a chance encounter with Military officials and Alamo Town officials. The location of the airport is all desert and gravel. Any chopper landing there would kick up an enormous amount of dust. So for the next Red Flag starting next week, anyone visiting that area should not be surprised to see very dusty soldiers.
