Take a look at the attached link, Area 51 Building Map. The shelter is known as "Hangar 19, Arm/De-Arm". Not sure when the original hangar was built, but it was significantly extended in Spring of 2005. The pad to the south, with the black circle, is a turn-around for aircraft, so they don't have to back out of the hangar.

The hangar and the extensions can be seen in our August 2005 Panorama in the Area 51 section. I believe there has also been some discussion here in the forum about the extension.
