There has been analog Verizon cell service in Rachel since some time around 2003. Although most analog sites have been turned off nationwide this February, the Rachel site is still operational. There is also a cell system inside the ranges with SID 211. It can be picked up from various locations around the NTTR.
Some people in Rachel are quick to blame "the military" for the absence of better cell service in Rachel. IMO it has a lot more to do with profitability.
