At the time the F-14 was first put into service, 1975, it was considered an elite aircraft. it has a radar system that can track up to twenty targets up to 180 miles away and engage them up to 90 miles away with the pheonix missle. Now we have the Super Hornet that has advance electronics that could match the veteran tomcat. All of these come from the tried and true method of taking what worked in a failed experiment and incorperating it into a new one. i bet all of these weapons were used around Area 51
