At first It actually looks more like an insect (like a MOsquito or a Spider perhaps), but if you had your focus out to infinite on your 80mm lense in order to capture the base, then an insect would either be a blur or not show up at all if it were only a foot or so in front of the camera.

It still looks organic, as there are no straight edges or obvious geometric patterns.
